You can’t always trust Wiarton Willie or someone who can predict an early spring

While you people are trying to clean up after the snowstorm in your neighbourhood, a famous groundhog predicts if he has a shadow or not. No shadow means an early spring, a shadow – well brace for yourself for a longer winter….
In Wiarton, Ontario today, Wiarton Willie is trying to predict if there is going to be an early spring or a longer winter. The prediction has prevailed. An early spring has finally come through. There’s also some mixed reaction to our fellow friends: Shubenacadie Sam of Nova Scotia and Alberta’s own Balzac Billy all failed to see their shadow which means, an early spring! However in a “blue note” down in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania (pronounced Punks-a-tawn-nee), a groundhog named Punxatawney Phil, reveals his shadow and it’s true: Six more weeks on winter is official. This might have sadden some of our yanks down there, but they don’t care although. They just want to “Say Anything” at all (Marianas Trench reference).
For my part, sometimes you can’t trust the groundhogs for an early spring. You have to rely on Global Warming (for some). As the old saying goes, “Expect the unexpected”. To the ringmasters who organize these events today, a take home message that I want to say to you: You can’t always trust “The Shortest Line” on whether or not you can predict an early spring. You might have to rely on the weather for some cases. I’m not being an anti-social on this topic you know, so please don’t take further action against me. I’m not bashing against you. I hope you’ll accept my claim.
To close off this blog, I’m leaving you a music video from an Alberta-based band called Social Code. Their music video is called “The shortest line”. I wonder if they have their own opinion about an early spring. It’s anyone’s guess. Especially Travis Nesbitt’s (the lead singer of Social Code) guess.
