Koodo mobile and the legacy of a workout show in the 1980s

with 3 comments

After spending days of figuring out what has inspired Koodo mobile’s advertising, I finally founded out that the name of the TV show from the 1980s. The exercise workout show called “the 20 Minute Workout”, inspires Koodo mobile’s advertising. If I remembered correctly, sometime in the 1990s, I watched this particular TV show when I was little – when it was in reruns! Also, my older sister used to have a tape containing these episodes but unfortunately, those are now memories…..:(

Anyways, I decided to do a little Google searching about the TV show called “The 20 Minute Workout” and there’s a Wikipedia article on it, as well to my surprise – a fan site dedicated to the show as well! No wait, I also found one site that was created by the director of the TV show. His name is Ron Harris, an American who created and directed Aerobicise and “The 20 Minute Workout”. The official website was lucky enough to provide us the full two seasons of “The 20 Minute Workout” – on DVD. However they are no longer selling it and happy to provide it all to download!! However be warned: The download is very very very long – 1.6GB in total and you have to burn the whole thing on DVD. That’s what finally lead me to download the entire thing so I can show my older sister to relive those great memories! Get your score of the show and put on your favourite aerobic shoes and start to relive the workout memories!!!!

To finish this blog off, I’m leaving you an excerpt of “The 20 Minute Workout” and to accompany that, a lyric from my favourite song by Simple Plan, “Holding On”:

In the night
There's fire in my eyes
And in this paradise
Has become a place we've come to cry
When I open your letter
The words make it better
It takes it all away (oh whoa)
It keeps me holding on
(Whoa) It keeps me holding on

  1. That is a cool post. I wrote about Koodo Mobile as well. Any ideas why would they choose the 20 min workout to appeal to younge audience :) )?

  2. I absolutely have no idea how and why these choose the 20 minute workout, but based on two commercials I saw for Koodo, they’re quite effective.

I really like the way the word “Koodo” was called in the commercials. It’s so catchy, I like to say it myself.

  3. [...] The first wave of Koodo Mobile ads are reminiscent to the “20 Minute Workout” TV shows and those “infamous” Tony Little infomercials.  [...]
