Just for fun: FirstPunk’s threaten to strike
The contract might up soon for Ajax-based FirstPunk, the leading supplier of supplying punk music for Simon Tonekham. Union members of the International Brotherhood of Punk Rockers local 2112 has threatened to strike if a new contract has not been reached by August 10th, 2008. The existing contract that was last brought in on September 2nd, 2006 will expire on July 26th, 2008.
Randall Galveston, union president of IBPR Local 2112 has stated that competing persons against Simon and past budget cuts initiated by the former Gibbs, Vanschagen and Johnson governments have severely threatened the company’s bottom line. Despite a new announcement made by the Bouvier government on increasing funding for punk rock music and the Punk Rock Opportunities Act introduced by the legislature on July 26th, 2006 (and later passed on August 31st, 2007), the industry faced massive losses in the past.
A wildcat strike on August 17, 2006 had lasted for two days after FirstPunk couldn’t provide a good outing for a concert down at the Canadian National Exhibition. The person was assisting a fellow family member who visited from Laos and guiding the family into the right direction. This has severely affected the industry’s bottom line. It was briefly recovered when the contract was ratified back on September 4th, 2006.
FirstPunk officials assured the public that the labour dispute will not affect Simon’s planned outing to the Warped Tour on July 19th and the Simple Plan concert on August 29th.
“We are rest assuring Simon that there won’t be a severe disruption in punk rock supply. We are constantly updating out announcements and hope to bring him at least 48 to 72 hours notice.”
