reporter got hit by a sled, Montreal suburbs opted for “stop” rather than “arret”

“That was a bad idea, At Riverside Park - Rob Leth….” - Rob Leth, reporter for Global TV

Well guys,

This is the funniest moment I have ever seen in my experience - imagine this: you are trying to finish a news report, when suddenly from out of nowhere, you got hit by some tobogganers down the hill on a bright winterly day and then you got owned big time! That was the funniest moment I have ever seen in my life. This is not like when Billy “Fish” O’Neill got hit by a car when the conference team was in Barcelona, Spain for a promotional tour although and it did not end in a serious way unlike Billy did or maybe when Ravi Baichwal got startled when a car crashes into their studio!

The video was uploaded to various websites, YouTube, Break.com and StupidVideos.com - even the fellow bloggers got their own point-of-view about this. Anyways, either way, it was funny.

Changing gears, it seems that many western Montreal suburbs (aka the West Island) have opted to paint the “S” word on their signs instead of the well recognized french word, aka “Arrêt”. That what angers many francophone-Montrealers. They want to have all signs that says “Arrêt”.

The Ministry of Transport in Quebec and the popular Larousse dictionary had stated that the word “Stop” is enough, but many francophone people should tell those suburbs and the people to “Arrêt”. One person, Mario Beaulieu of the Mouvement Montreal francais told in an interview that the word “STOP” is deplorable.

“Signage must reflect that French is the official language. The word stop is accepted, that’s why it’s legal, but I think the word ‘arret’ better reflects the French face of Montreal and Quebec.”

However, not everyone is impressed on that claim. Dollard-Des-Ormeaux mayor Ed Janiszewski believes that “the word STOP is a perfectly good French word and most people are foolish.” However, out further west in Sainte-Anne-De-Bellevue, people in that city know what “Arrêt” means and know what the colour red means. According to Le Office québécois de la langue française (The Quebec French Language Office), the watchdog of promoting the French Language, legally people can interchange one word with another. The word however, is accepted in either language, but if both words are present, they are subjected under the law.

So while many Quebecors are still in a tense battle about language, a friendly word advice to Rob Leth: “Arrêt standing near in the path of Tobogganers enjoying the nice winterly day!”

To finish this blog off, I’m leaving you three videos: the video where Rob Leth got hit by Tobogganers, the music video “Hero/Heroine” by Boys Like Girls and the video when Billy O’Neill got hit by a car while in Spain. There are actually two versions of the “Hero/Heroine” music video. One version consists when the band is performing and a shot of the restaurant scene and the other version consists of when the lead singer Martin Johnson was hanging out with his girlfriend and such.

Raw video on the Billy “Fish” O’Neill incident

I stumbled upon the Rollernews.com website and they have posted an “exclusive” look on the Billy “Fish” O’Neill incident and they were able to film the whole events unfolding to Fish’s sudden hit by a car when he and his Conference crew was in Barcelona for a special promotional tour back in February.

Before the incident unfolded, Billy talked to his film crew about that he did a “180″ on his first try and to do some trick called the “G-Style” or something like that. However, his crew told him to do the 180 and he complied to his film crew’s orders.

Without further ado, he began to jump two flights of stairs in the air and he attempted to stop, but fortunately he didn’t. He winds up at the middle of the street and from the middle of nowhere - a car suddenly hit him outright.

The film crew immediately reacted to this so they immediately rushed to Billy to see if he is Okay. Billy was screaming in pain and the film crew tried to calm Billy down and they quote to him, “Don’t move. We’ll get some help.” Local bystanders were there to witness the action unfolding.

The local law enforcement officials arrived at the scene briefly after the incident. One of the film crew asked Billy if his ankle got sprained. Billy replied that he broke it. During the immense conversation, one of the film crew mentions in his own commentary to Billy that “He is Superman.” From my point of view, it’s not that humourous, but it cheers Billy up.

One of the bystanders told Billy to “Try to relax.” They offer him a chair to sit down and asks Billy to keep still. Billy tries to stay still until the emergency crews arrive. Shortly after, emergency crews arrived at the scene. Another member of the film crew mentions about the incident and quote, “This (censored) is (censored) nuts, dude. That was the worst thing I ever seen in my life.”

Emergency crews rushed to the injured Billy and tries to feel his sprained ankle. As she began to touch at it, Billy shrieks. From there, he is brought into a stretcher and taken into the hospital. What an incredible ordeal that Billy has to live up to. He will probably remember this for the rest of his life.

Before the end of the video, Billy began to film himself with his crutches and dances. That was the most humourous part of this particular video.

Shortly after the particular footage was filmed, it was spreading like wildfire - even the Canadian Roll blog and the Rollernews.com website made a mention about this as well.
Billy, if you are reading my blog right now, I have decided to gain some recognition of you for your horrific ordeal. Don’t take my comments seriously, I want to give a second opinion into my own perspective. I hope you will understand it by now.

To close off this blog, I’m leaving you a music video from a Canadian band called, Social Code. Their song is called, “Everyday (Late November)”. This music video is reminiscent to Green Day’s “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”. If you scroll down to 02:19 and 02:53 of the Social Code music video, a quote is dedicated exclusively to you, Billy “Fish” O’Neill. Best wishes on your recovery, dude.

I stumbled upon visiting TheConference.org’s website until one particular video gained my attention. Billy “Fish” O’Neill a pro aggressive inline skater (rollerblader) was having a great time filming in Barcelona, Spain until suddenly without warning, Fish got hit by a car. The people who were filming this were shocked to see the news. They have to call in an ambulance to make sure that Billy is doing okay. As TheConference.org blog report, he is doing okay. Here’s an official statement from TheConference.org:

We have it all on film, all the ensuing action too. Billy is OK. He has 2 twisted ankles, so he cant walk, but he is fine. We were all laughing about it, he wanted to put that clip online, we spent all evening with the police and the hospital, everyone looked after him, we are a great supportive crew here at my house and to be honest we were all sitting around watching it and talking about how lucky he was.

He is in great humour and we werent using it as an advertisement, or promoting a DVD, we just wanted to share what happened with everyone, because it was a miracle escape.

Im really sorry people are offended by it, i understand it though as we ourselves still see it and cringe, and at that moment we all wanted to die…

Billy is sitting here by my side watching “Jay and Silent Bob strike back” and is laughing away.

Oli.

This is what Billy O’Neill had quoted from an unknown source (actually this was posted from the RollerNews.com website):

sup heads, im all good , just sprained both ankles pretty bad. crazy incident tho. it happened yesterday in barcelona. but honestly thanks for all ur concerns and things like that, its making me feel better to know that the community cares, ya kno. love yall. peace

Billy O..neiil

Now my concern for him is that he will not walk (and eventually rollerblade) again. My best wishes go to Mr. O’Neil for a successful recovery……I bet he didn’t end like the Prevent-it.ca ads produced by the WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board)

Here’s a video of Billy “Fish” O’Neill in his “better” days - testing his own USD pro skate model:

Changing gears, Simple Plan is going to appear for the Live @ Much on Tuesday and it’s going to be televised live - on MuchMusic! I’m planning to go down there on that day, bring my Simple Plan memorabilia, and my camera because I might take pictures of the guys signing autographs to the fans and meeting them! The last time they were here was back in December 2004. I only one autograph from Chuck Comeau, but that’s not a big deal. heh.

As for the Billy “Fish” O’Neill incident, just like the end of prevent-it.ca ads, “There really are no accidents.” Also, just like the song by Simple Plan, “How can this happen to me?!!

To see the music video of that song, you can do so here:
